Launching the DOF Console

  1. Extract the DOF Console.zip file, in its entirety, to a location of your choice.
    Note: Since there is no installer for the DOF Console, the program launches directly from the folder created during its extraction.
  2. Open the folder created during the extraction.
  3. Double-click the file DOF Console.exe to launch the DOF Console.

File Menu Options

The following options are available from the DOF Console “File” menu. Instructions for each option is included.

Add a New AS Connection

To add a new AS connection:

  1. Select File > Add > New AS Connection.
  2. Create a new AS Connection by entering the Host, Port, Type of Connection (Stream or Datagram), Username and Domain (choosing the appropriate type from the drop downs), and Password or Key (selecting whether or not to Save).
  3. Click Save or Connect. (Cancel will close the window and discard your entries.)

Add a New Connection

To add a new connection:

  1. Select File > Add > New Connection.
  2. Create a new connection by entering the Host, Port, Type of Connection (Stream or Datagram), Username and Domain (choosing the appropriate type from the drop downs), and Password or Key (selecting whether or not to Save).
  3. Click Save or Connect. (Cancel will close the window and discard your entries.)

Add a New Secure Group

To add a new secure group:

  1. Select File > Add > New Secure Group.
  2. Create a new Secure Group by entering the Group Identifier, Port, Type of Connection (Stream or Datagram), Username and Domain (choosing the appropriate type from the drop downs), and Password or Key (selecting whether or not to Save).
  3. Click Save or Connect. (Cancel will close the window and discard your entries.)

Add a New Server

To add a new server:

  1. Select File > Add > New Server.
  2. Create a new Server by entering the Host, Port, Type of Connection (Stream or Datagram), Username and Domain (choosing the appropriate type from the drop downs), and Password or Key (selecting whether or not to Save).
  3. Click Save or Connect. (Cancel will close the window and discard your entries.)

Note: The DOF Console starts a server automatically when the program is executed.

Add a New Requestor

Launches the Edit Favorite Object.

  1. Select File > Add > New Requestor.
  2. Enter the required information.
  3. Click Cancel or OK.

Add a New Provider

Launches the Edit Favorite Object.

  1. Select File > Add > New Provider.
  2. Enter the required information.
  3. Click Cancel or OK.

Import an Interface

(This feature is not fully implemented at this time.)

Operation Instructions

Favorite Requestors

To create “favorite” requestors:

  1. Right-click the graphic under Favorite Requestors to Add an Interface (not fully implemented at this time), Delete, Rename, Set Interest or view the Properties for your requestor.
  2. Set Interest: choose the level of Interest required.

Using the Control Panel

The Control Panel icons launch a window allowing you to add and edit Interface properties.

Note: Not all Interface features have been implemented. If you are importing an Interface, please be sure you have the file and use the File… selection. This will upload the Interface directly from your local machine.

Importing an Interface

To import an interface:

  1. Launch the DOF Console.
  2. Select File > Import Interface >  File…
    A dialog window will open.
  3. Select the example Interface you would like to use.
  4. Click OK.
  5. (Optional) Repeat steps 1-4 to import additional Interfaces.

Connecting to a Server

To connect to a server:

  1. Launch the DOF Console.
  2. In the upper left panel, click Connections.
  3. Right-click Favorite Connections, then select New Connection…
    The Connect Properties window will launch.
  4. Enter your settings in the Connect Properties window.
    We will use examples for the following scenario.
  5. Change Host from localhost to the location of your host.
    If your Host is available locally (i.e., on your physical computer or accessible via your local network), you can use localhost to designate your Host.
  6. In the Port field, enter the port number assigned to your host.
    The default port is 3567.
  7. Select the type of connection you will use.
    (For this example, we will use Secure only.) Secure only requires credentials or secrets (e.g., passwords or keys) to establish the connection.
  8. Select Domain from the Domain drop-down menu and enter your domain name.
  9. Select EMAIL from the Username drop-down menu and enter your email address.
    Use the email address given to you when we created accounts.
  10. Select Password.
  11. Enter the password that you received.
    Note: “Save Password” will not allow you to bypass this step when you restart the DOF Console. Your password must be entered each time the program is started.
  12. Click Save.
    Note: In this release, the text under Favorite Connections may be inaccurate.
  13. Right-click the new connection and select Connect.
    Note: If any information is incorrect, the program may stop responding.

Entering the Object

To enter an object:

  1. In the lower left panel, click the Requestors tab.
  2. Right-click Favorite Requestors and select New requestor…
    A dialog appears.
  3.  Make sure EMAIL is selected in the drop-down menu and enter your email address.
  4. Click OK.
    A new entry appears labeled with your email address.
  5. Expand the new entry to show Control Panel and Interfaces.
  6. On the Interfaces item, right-click and select Add interface…
    A dialog appears.
  7. Select your Interface, then click OK.
    (Sample Interfaces are available here.)
  8. Right-click the new object (labeled with your email address) or related object, then select Set Interest.
  9. Pick Watch from the list.

Disconnecting from a Server

To disconnect from the server:

  1. In the left Connections window, right-click the connection you want to disconnect.
  2. Click Disconnect.
